What are good beaches in southern California?

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

I live in the southern California desert … and my kids have been bugging me to go to the beach. My husband and I have finally given in – just really don’t know which one to go to. Were only going for the day. I know we have at least a couple hours drive… so any ideas would be nice. I have four boys and nice bathrooms instead of porta potties would be nice.

The cleanest, and best maintained beaches in southern California are in Orange County. I would recommend Huntington Beach. It has lots of quaint shops and eateries just across the road from the beach.

Can it be possible that the Oil has come to California beaches?

Friday, August 6th, 2010

I was on a plane from LAX to OAK and when I was looking out the window I saw this brownish reddish color in the water. I not sure if this is oil but that’s what it looked like to me. So is it possible that the oil came over here?

Absolutely not. The Gulf of Mexico, and the Pacific Ocean are not connected to each other in any way. What you saw is called "red tide". It’s a form of sea kelp.
