Has the oil from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill made it to the Florida beaches yet?

I live in New Orleans and I have a vacation planned in June to go to Panama City Beach, Florida. I was wondering if anyone knows the condition of the beach’s water, sand and smell.

As for your question:
Right now we have no spillage but we have smelt some of the burning oil and it smells horrible.
Right now no one really knows what will happen until they resolve the leak issue. Really what is going to happen over the next few months during hurricane season if they don’t clean it up.

It’s sad to say but I wouldn’t go. If you can’t see anything on the water, there’s got to be some sort of Chemicals left in the water that may cause medical problems, especially for women. I say that because when a woman swims, things can get inside her. Where ever any woman swims they should wear a Tampon.

noaa.gov has gotten reports of it hitting the florida panhandel… i live in mary esther,fl and have gotten broken down oil mixing in the white sand at the private beach at the end of my street… and chemical dispersants come in following tides every few days… mind you last time chemical dispersants were used volunteers pee’d blood in the 80′s with exxon valdez… and noaa tracks the oil and not the epa approved chemical… they can spray the chemical and the oil sinks but the despersant still travels around
