Is it safe for a female to holiday by herself in any of the Pacific Islands? If so, which ones?

Am from New Zealand & am tired of holidaying in Australia. I don’t want to go to Asia so that only leaves the Pacific Islands re a cheap holiday as travelling further afield than Asia is very expensive for us. I don’t have a boyfriend to travel with & my friends don’t have the funds to come with me so I wondered about lazing around on the beach on my own. Perhaps that wouldn’t be acceptable there? I might get unwanted male attention, or worse? When I say Pacific, I mean South Pacific so don’t recommend Hawaii as it’s too expensive re American dollars & the airfare. I’m meaning Islands more like Fiji, Samoa, Cook Islands, etc. I know Vanuatu is a bit more primitive so won’t be safe for a female alone and Tahiti & New Caledonia are very expensive.
er, Hello, I’m guessing you’re American? Because only an American would confuse the Caribbean with the South Pacific!! Fiji is nowhere in the vicinity of Aruba!!!!! Totally different partos the world, totally different culture. Also don’t call me sweetie, it’s condescending & I happen to be in my late 30′s & have travelled alone to many countries so I’m hardly naive. If I’m only chilling out on the beach then I don’t care about going alone.

I think if you so easily pigeonhole people based on a minor geographical error (as if all the citizens of your country know world geography perfectly) then you should stay put…find a beach in your part of the world where you’re sure not to run into any ignorant Americans. I can tell from the way you write that you are arrogant – any country would be happy to know you didn’t bother arriving on their shores to bare your butt and leave tiny tips.

Whats the best tackle for Shore fishing in Mexico? Pacific side!?

NO! It’s very unsafe, dont even go just with another woman, go with a group of people, especially a guy friend or boyfriend, etc.

Because, u heard about the girl in Aruba. So even if ur grown, DONT 4 your own safety. So even if u think u will be alright, dont take the chance, u may regret.
Or either find somewhere, where your friends and you can go, locally. You will have a great times with ur buddies, but if u go somewhere alone think of the risks, you wont even have a good time by yourself, u will have wasted ur money.,

    God Bless You sweetie.

Well, I’m American so I can see how offensive that American remark is. But, I read a lot of fear and impending doom into your assessment of all the countries/islands you intend to avoid. I’m female and single and have been traveling alone for 15 years throughout Asia. If I had entertained all the negativity about Asia that was being fed to me when I set out to travel I would have just stayed in America.

Look, are there no acts of violence against women in your country? Do you live in Xanadu? No one does, no country is void of negative aspects. Do a little homework but go where you want to go and abandon your fears…but stay smart.

If you just want to lay on a beach, expose yourself to the sun and the local color then expect some kind of harassment no matter what country you travel. My only advice to you is avoid Muslim countries. I’m not a beachcomber and don’t understand the attraction of sunning myself when I can get on a motorcycle and explore AND get sun that way. Enjoy. Go to the Lonely Planet site to get some more ideas.

Why not try Palau its a good destination. However, its far from your country. The good choices for you is Soloman Islands, Fiji and Tuvalu.

Vanuatu has great beaches and is a safe place for women traveling alone. My wife (all of 52 kilos) operated a resort on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu on her own with 25 indigenous staff for one month in my abscence, BUT she did not go sunbaking alone on beaches…that’s asking for trouble anywhere).

The country is a stunning destination, both culturally, and geographically, so diverse with a lot to do, hopefully you would want more from a holiday than vegetating on a beach….expensive suntain!

See thousands of photos of the numerous islands in Vanuatu I have taken over the many years living here (see Champagne Beach for a sublime spot).
